A Game Of Tennis (20/1/08)

Today is a special day as it did not rain at night. So my parents and their friends had a two-hour tennis game with me at Uncle Wilson's condominium.
At start, we did some rally first. Rally is playing the ball to each other without stopping. It trains our accuracy on hitting the ball both vertically and horizontally. Next we praticed our surf for later's game. Soon we all got warmed up and we decided to play a set of doubles. I was paired up to one of my parents' friend, Uncle Wilson. Uncle Wilson is a good tennis player with excellent shots. Upon pairing up with him, it is quite easy to win the game. In the set, I played not quite up to my standards due to the fact that I got astimagtism. Thus there was a bit of distortion when I looked at the ball. Even though I could not hit the ball properly, uncle Wilson's powerful shots made us win at the last part with the score of 7-6. Since there was extra time, we decided to play another set. This time we swapped partners and my mother subtitudes my father. I was partnered with uncle Chris. He was also a good player. Then, we started the set. At first, we were losing way behind. But due to our strong determination, we caught up and won with my powerful volley shot, having the score of 6-4. After that, there was still ten minutes left! So we decided to play another set. But this time, there was not enough time so we stopped at the score 1-1. We packed up our things and left the tennis court.
After this tennis game, I have gotten more experience in tennis. I hope that I play better next time so that I can represent my school to play tournaments. In future, I hope that I can play as well as the world number one tennis player Roger Federer.

Dragonboat Pratice (Saturday 19/1/08)

Today is another normal weekend where it is time for me to relax. Soon it was four in the afternoon. My parents and I left home for our weekly routine, the dragonboat practice.
My parents take this activity very seriously as it will be their only chance to exercise in their busy week. The team we joined is called the Kowloon Club. The special thing about our team is that all of us are not born in Singapore, but from other parts of Asia. Also, there are only two people under the age of fifteen including me! Every week, we practice for two hours to train for competitions like the river regatta at the year. We pratice our starts and our body endurance usually. Sometimes we have games too and I love them.
Firstly, we usually warm up ourselves by paddling for around six hundred metres. Next we will train our starts, drills and then pair-rowing. Pair-rowing is actually a pair rowing the boat by themselvs only. After around ten strokes, the next pair follows up. This continues around for a few sets. After that, we paddled the boat up to the beach to train on our teamwork. Then, we would push the boat back to the seas and we start doing the fast strokes. This training trains our stamina. We do around thirty strokes at around eighteen seconds. It was very fast. My friend Matthew was so tired that he claimed that he was dying. After that, the trainig ended.
My parents and I went home straight after the tiring but fun dragonboat pratice.

The fire drill (17/01/2008)

Today is another boring school day. But at the end of school, the fire drill came......
When the alarm rang, all of us packed our bags and rushed out the classroom with them. But upon seeing others coming out without bags, we threw our bags back into the classroom and hurried to the nearest staircase. At the staircase, it was pretty jammed as there were too many people in the staircase due to the amount of people using it. We walked down slowly in order to prevent any accidents on the stairs. Soon, we reached our destination, the school soccer field. Then, we were directed to a place to settle down. Next, we were ordered to sit down in a single file in our register number. It was one in the afternoon at that moment. Thus it was very hot! My hair was burning at that moment. Even the synthetic grass in the field was hot! Soon we were bored as there was nothing to do but to sit in the field. So we played games like throwing the black things found in the field at each other. We had much fun playing. Soon the upper secondary students starts to leave the field, showing the sign that we can leave. We lest the field and went back to class to get our bags and leave.
I think this fire drill is pretty important even though many people think that it is not. It lets us know how to react when there is a fire. I sure do hope that there will be more fire drills for us so that we can be more used to the escape routes.
